2016 NBA Rookie Ladder: Jahlil Okafor Making A Comeback?
10. Stanley Johnson, Detroit Pistons
For all the shooting struggles that Johnson’s had throughout his rookie campaign, he’s shown he can connect from all over the floor and defend at a high level. Those are fantastic signs for a wing selected in the lottery, and even though he has a long way to go as an offensive focus on a playoff team his future is extremely bright.
Things just got interesting for his spot in the rotation though as the Pistons made a move for Tobias Harris at the deadline. Harris plays both small and power forward and is alternating between both spots with Marcus Morris at the moment with Johnson as a sixth man.
Johnson is too talented to ride the bench and halt his further development after this season, so the move for Harris is one that raises a few questions, especially with the improvements that Kentavious Caldwell-Pope has made to his game this year.
Is Johnson’s future ultimately in Detroit? It’ll be fun to watch this rotation battle play out over the coming weeks and months.
