1. Gunner of the Week- Anthony Davis

Games: 2

PPG: 46.5

FG: 33/56 (58.9%)

3PT: 2/4 (50%)

A new Gunner of the Week has been crowned, and nobody deserved it this week more than Anthony Davis. He has appeared on the column’s list before, but never claimed the top spot. And with the week he had, we will most likely never see averages like Davis posted in the two games that he played.

In a win over Detroit, Davis exploded for a career-high 59 points and also grabbed 20 rebounds.

During the performance, he shot 24-for-34 from the field, and knocking down the two three’s he attempted. Everything inside the three-point arc belonged to Davis that night. He finished 12-for-16 on shots from 10 feet or less and 4-of-5 on pull-up jumpers.

His 59 points are the highest the NBA has seen in the past two years.

The Pelicans are still 5.5 games out of the playoff picture, but if Davis continues to string together performances similar to this past week, they’ll be sitting in a good position as the season winds down. Davis came into this season expected to be atop of the MVP list, but due to Stephen Curry’s existence, that trophy may have his name written on it for the next couple of seasons. Now that Davis is healthy though, the Pelicans will look to tighten things up as the playoffs approach. The Pelicans are currently eleventh in the West with a 22-33 record.
