Loser: Atlanta Hawks

The Atlanta Hawks made what seemed like a good trade early on deadline day. Atlanta flipped Shelvin Mack over to the Utah Jazz in exchange for a second round pick. Atlanta got themselves a roster spot to make future moves, and a pick.

Then they turned around and traded Justin Holiday, along with the second round pick from Utah, for Kirk Hinrich. Let’s recap: the Hawks essentially traded Justin Holiday and Shelvin Mack for Kirk Hinrich.

In more minutes per game than either Holiday or Mack have gotten this season, Hinrich is hardly scoring any points per game or racking up any other statistics. He’s also nine years older than Holiday and 11 years older than Mack.

Neither Holiday nor Mack has been impressive this season, but Hinrich seems firmly past his prime at this point. Why Atlanta decided to punt on two young players to rent him for less than half of a season is a mystery.
