The Jazz approached the deadline in eighth place in the West, but Houston was right on their heels. The weakest spot on the roster is the point guard position. With Atlanta making Jeff Teague available, it seemed like a perfect fit for the Jazz to make a deal for him in order to lock a playoff seed for this postseason.

The only deal that ended up taking place was acquiring Shelvin Mack, a backup point guard from Atlanta who has played a spotty 7.5 minutes per game. Pretty much, this move did nothing to help boost the Jazz’s chances of becoming a playoff team this season.

The Jazz are 1-1 since the All-Star break, but have dropped in the standings to ninth place as Houston owns the tie-breaker. If Houston can put together a decent second half, there is a good chance the Jazz may be at home during the postseason once again. Although they struck out during the deadline period, it is safe to say that they’ll make a run at a point guard in the free agency market.

Once they get the point guard position patched up, the Jazz could be a scary team in the Western Conference.
