2010 The Dallas Mavericks

The 2010 deadline opened the doors to the Dallas Mavericks first ever championship. The Mavericks who had consistently kicked butt in the regular season, had routinely fallen short in the post-season. Most notably in 2006, where after taking a two game lead the Mavericks collapsed against the Dwyane Wade and the Miami Heat. Dwyane Wade racked up 10,000 free throws and the rest is history. (18.3 free throw attempts for Wade over the final four games.) Then it got worse. The Mavericks went bonkers in 20007 winning 67 games only to fall anti-climatically to the Warriors in the first round. They needed a king, or a king slayer.

The Deal

Dallas sent one of the very few talents they have ever developed from the ground up in Josh Howard, along with Drew Gooden, James Singleton, and Quinton Ross. The Wizards sent Caron Butler, Brendan Haywood, and DeShawn Stevenson.

Butler who was the main cog in the deal would miss most of the 2010-11 season. But Stevenson would be a major contributor defensively for the Mavericks all the way to the 2011 Finals, where the Mavericks would upset Miami in a 2006 rematch, and Stevenson would get his ring before the king.
