2016 NBA Trade Deadline Grades For All 30 Teams
Denver Nuggets
The Blake Griffin trade scenarios were exhilarating to think about, but ultimately, the Denver Nuggets opted to keep their young core together and not give up any future assets in a win-now move. As such, their only play of the deadline was to trade Randy Foye to the Oklahoma City Thunder for spare parts.
The Nuggets will take on D.J. Augustin, Steve Novak and two future draft picks in the deal.
According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, those picks will be OKC’s 2016 second-rounder and Charlotte’s 2016 second-rounder. Both Augustin and Novak come off the books this summer, so the deal is really about possibly upgrading from Foye to Augustin and the second round picks.
Augustin is averaging 4.2 points in 15.3 minutes per game while shooting 39.3 percent from three-point range this summer. Novak has only appeared in seven games this season, making five of his nine three-point attempts.
OKC may look like the big winners of this trade, but for a “nothing deal,” netting two first-rounders for Foye is a pretty decent haul. Adding more picks to barter with and further strengthening the youth movement is never a bad idea, and that’s what the Nuggets did for their core of Emmanuel Mudiay, Gary Harris, Nikola Jokic and Jusuf Nurkic with this trade.
