Chicago Bulls

It was a fairly quiet trade deadline for the Chicago Bulls, who had been engaged with the Sacramento Kings in trade talks revolving around Pau Gasol and Ben McLemore. But ultimately, the front office decided not to throw the season away by dealing for an unproven wing shooter and Kosta Koufos, granting Gasol his wish to finish out the season in a Bulls uniform.

With Jimmy Butler out for the next few weeks, Chicago will have a hard time bucking their current free-fall (5-13 in their last 18 games), but they didn’t do anything rash and will still have a chance to re-sign Gasol this summer.

The only move Chicago made was the (eventual) three-team trade with the Jazz and Hawks that sent Kirk Hinrich to Atlanta for Justin Holiday and a future second round pick.

Trading the washed up, 35-year-old Hinrich for a younger player like Holiday is a good move, and adding a second-rounder to the pile just makes it even sweeter. Holiday is only averaging 2.4 points in 10.1 minutes per game on nauseating .321/.222/.500 shooting splits, but he’s still relatively young and proved last year in Golden State he could be decent if he’s given enough minutes.

With Butler out and Hinrich gone, Holiday may get a temporary shot at minutes in Chicago’s rotation. He has a $1 million salary for the 2016-17 season.
