Philadelphia 76ers

Perhaps “Trust The Process” isn’t dead after all. Though the Philadelphia 76ers were reportedly taking calls for rookie Jahlil Okafor, their trade deadline was ultimately what we’ve come to expect from the Sixers: no significant moves, other than taking on the contract of a useless player that no one wants on the books.

In this case it was Joel Anthony, who was redirected from Houston after Detroit traded him there. The Rockets banished the two-time champion to NBA Siberia, sending a 2017 second round pick with him to keep him warm.

All the Sixers had to give up for a free second-rounder were the draft rights to Chukwudiebere Maduabum, a player who will likely never suit up in an NBA game.

Absorbing Anthony’s $2.5 million contract (with another $2.5 million next season being non-guaranteed) also puts the Sixers above the NBA’s salary floor, saving them money they’d otherwise have to distribute among every player on the roster. The 76ers are still atrocious, but perhaps Sam Hinkie has a strong say in the team’s operations after all.
