New York Knicks

As currently constructed, the New York Knicks probably aren’t a playoff team. They didn’t do anything at the trade deadline to change that. And you know what? That’s okay.

Dealing for a point guard like Mike Conley or Jeff Teague would have been nice, but the Knicks really didn’t have any appealing assets to offer outside of Carmelo Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis — players who were obviously off limits. Trading first-rounders is out of the question for a franchise that’s dug itself in a hole by doing that very thing, so standing pat is preferable by comparison.

With a dearth of draft picks, the Knicks will be relying on the allure of Phil Jackson, the Big Apple and the Knicks’ prestige to lure talented players in free agency. Rather than making a desperate move for someone like Ty Lawson or Michael Carter-Williams, the Knicks stayed the exact same, and for once, that’s perfectly fine.
