’81 Reasons’

It was supposedly going to be a long time before anyone could sniff Wilt Chamberlain’s 100-point performance, and save for a few missed shots, we almost saw it eclipsed.

It seemed that Bryant was on a crash course to breaking out as big as he did. During the same season, he put 62 points in three quarters against the Dallas Mavericks. Like a machine trying to save his team, Bryant kept firing and firing. He hit his target on the right side of history.

In an interview with USA Today, Bryant attempted to recount the moment:

"“I’ve had to play it over in my mind several times,” Bryant said. “There is really no explanation for it. I can always explain it from an X’s and O’s standpoint, from a training standpoint, but when nights like that happen, there is always something mystical about it. Scoring that many points, that really carries no explanation.”"

No explanation needed, Kobe. What you did was ridiculous! What more can be said about this moment? Bryant gave us the personification of dominance over his competition. No one knows the kind of zone that Bryant was in, or could really explain what they were witnessing. All that we know is it may go down as the single most exhilarating sports moments of all-time.

Bryant cemented the moment by raising one finger to the sky.
