The Denver Nuggets are ready to usher in a new era of big men and they have made players like Kenneth Faried and J.J. Hickson available for the trade deadline. While it’s unlikely that either is traded, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports recently broke news that said Hickson would “almost assuredly” be bought out if he wasn’t traded before the deadline.

This season has not been great for Hickson. He has only played in 20 games and is struggling to find time with players like Faried, Nikola Jokic, Darrell Arthur and Joffrey Lauvergne receiving most of the frontcourt minutes in Denver.

Hickson is not the most reliable option out there, in terms of production on the court, but he does provide the Mavs with some versatility at the 4 and 5. Hickson can play either position and and, at the age of 27, he is athletic enough to make a difference in the paint.

With Hickson on the team, the Mavs would have a nice spread of big men coming off of the bench that would include JaVale McGee, Dwight Powell and Salah Mejri. That would be enough talent to balance out bench play between the guards and the rest of the roster.
