Atlanta Hawks: Dennis Schroder

The Atlanta Hawks don’t have very much by way of untouchable assets. Head coach Mike Budenholzer certainly falls under that classification, but he’s not exactly relevant in trade discussions during the regular season.

If there’s one player who falls under the umbrella of the untouchables, it’s 22-year-old point guard and 2013 first-round draft pick Dennis Schröder.

Schröder has improved his per 36 averages in points, assists, rebounds, steals, and 3-point field goals made in each of his first three seasons. In 2015-16, his per 36 numbers come out to 18.6 points, 7.9 assists, 4.2 rebounds, 1.7 steals, and 1.8 3-point field goals made.

Beyond the numbers, Schröder’s instincts as a playmaker are improving and his consistency in the half court is following suit.

After essentially demanding an increase in playing time and a starting role, Schröder is proving himself as a potential force in the NBA. He’s a viable candidate for Sixth Man of the Year in 2015-16, posting averages of 10.7 points and 4.5 assists in 20.7 minutes for the 31-24 Hawks.

Schröder may or may not live up to the superstar potential, and his name has surfaced in trade rumors, but giving up a 22-year-old rising force with restricted free agency looming would be a silly decision on Atlanta’s behalf.
