Golden State Warriors: The Big Three

Stephen Curry is NBA MVP, Draymond Green is a Defensive Player of the Year frontrunner, and Klay Thompson is an All-NBA honoree. Thus, it stands to reason that any of those three can be selected as the most untouchable player on the Golden State Warriors’ roster.

The MVP award makes Curry the selection, but the honest answer is all three.

Trading Curry would mean losing the league’s, very likely, two-time defending NBA MVP. Dealing Thompson would mean splitting the Splash Brothers, who have separated themselves as the best backcourt in the Association—a tandem that helped Golden State win a championship in 2014-15.

Losing Green would mean parting ways with the Warriors’ defensive anchor, leading facilitator, and top rebounder.

Those three players are tremendous individually, but their true value is found as a trio. Each player neutralizes another one’s weaknesses, which is why Golden State has emerged as a genuine championship contender.

We could split hairs and choose one player over another, but the honest answer is that all three are irreplaceable in Steve Kerr’s system.
