Terrence Jones

There have been rumors swirling that the Heat have talked with the Houston Rockets about acquiring Dwight Howard, with Hassan Whiteside being the main piece. Those rumors involve a lot of moving pieces and salaries being moved, so why not try for a simpler trade with the Rockets that has the Heat acquiring Terrence Jones?

The Rockets are on the fringe of the playoffs in the Western Conference, as the chemistry on their roster has reached toxic levels. They would be smart to start selling off pieces to try and get some value now, and one of the players they can shop is Jones.

Jones has struggled to find consistency with the Rockets this season, as injuries to himself and the roster have caused a ton of lineup changes for Houston. The coaching change probably has something to do with it as well, as Kevin McHale was relieved of his duties earlier in the year.

While Jones does not fit the bill as a stretch-4, as he is a career 31.4 percent shooter from deep, but he could help fill the void at power forward for the Heat. With Chris Andersen out of town, the Heat have only an ailing Josh McRoberts, seldom-used Udonis Haslem and limited Amar’e Stoudemire to turn to.

Jones would immediately step into the starting power forward spot for the Heat and could thrive in the pick-and-roll game with Dragic. Jones has a cheap salary under $2.5 million, as he is still on his rookie contract. That would not hurt the Heat in terms of tax money, making Jones a player for them to monitor as the Rockets look ready to possibly start blowing things up.
