Evan Fournier

2015-16 Stats:

  • PPG: 14.0
  • APG: 2.7
  • RPG: 2.9

Evan Fournier has been a pleasant surprise for the Orlando Magic this season. His numbers have shot up and for that, he has been starting games and averaging 31.5 minutes per game.

The Mavs would have to be willing to make a pretty decent offer in order to pry him from the Magic. He has been one of their better players this season and they would be losing a big part of their team, but there might be incentive to go ahead and trade him away.

Last summer, they offered him a four-year, $32 million deal that he did not accept. Even though he is a restricted free agent this summer, the Magic might prefer to go ahead and trade him for some extra pieces instead of losing him because they don’t want to match an offer.

The same free agency risk would apply to the Mavs but his play this season is a reason to pull the trigger and take a chance on a young player.

The Magic appear to be in deal mode too as they recently completed a trade for Brandon Jennings and Ersan Ilyasova, shipping Tobias Harris to the Detroit Pistons. In addition to that, they are trying to trade Channing Frye to the Los Angeles Clippers for Lance Stephenson. They bottom line is that the Magic seem likely to cooperate with any call they receive.

Why Fournier fits in Dallas: The biggest reason Fournier would be a great piece for the Mavs is because of his ability to score in all kinds of ways. Whether he’s driving the lane, shooting mid-range jumpers or hitting threes, Fournier provides pure offense which is something that would help the Mavs avoid their offensive issues.

There is certainly a big question mark by his name this summer and working out a trade for him would be a long shot, but he could be a piece that could really help them find some consistency and make a serious run at home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs.
