Ben McLemore

2015-16 Stats:

  • PPG: 7.7
  • APG: 1.2
  • RPG: 2.1

Ben McLemore is in his third season in the NBA, all with the Sacramento Kings. Since being drafted from Kansas, McLemore has provided solid offense but he is struggling to find that next level on a Kings team that is going nowhere fast, despite having Rajon Rondo and DeMarcus Cousins on the roster.

According to Marc Stein and Brian Windhorst, the Kings are rapidly trying to find a trade partner so they can get rid of McLemore. The report went on to state that the Kings “prefer immediate help in trade talks more than future picks.”

"“[Ben] McLemore, sources say, is working with the Kings to try to find a new home via trade.”"

With that in mind, it would make a lot of sense for the Mavs to get involved in this deal. They would like to avoid trading away more draft picks as that has not worked out well for them in the past and they have plenty of veterans that they could send to Sacramento as they try to get into the playoff picture.

Why McLemore fits in Dallas: As a 23-year-old shooting guard, McLemore is exactly what the Mavs would be looking for. Other than Wesley Matthews, they never really play any true shooting guards. Justin Anderson and John Jenkins are the only other two options but they get most of their minutes in garbage time.

For most backup shooting guard minutes, point guards are moved into the position.

McLemore fits the mold in Dallas because he helps the Mavs focus more on the future and provides them with a young piece to develop in the coming years. His overall game can be improved and he would be a perfect bench piece for this season’s team.
