Dallas Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks have not been one of the teams headlined in trade rumors this season. After the offseason experiment with DeAndre Jordan agreeing to terms and then backing out, the Mavericks have surprisingly been quiet ever since. The Mavs’ biggest priority is simple: they need offense, as HoopsHabit’s Cole Mentzel pointed out.

  • There aren’t too many options available for the Mavericks, due to their lack of trade assets. The Mavs should be looking for a low-risk, high-reward type of deal. A guard at the point or shooting guard position would be ideal.

A name that immediately comes to mind is Kevin Martin, whose value is low due to the lack of success in Minnesota this season. Nearly a month ago the Mavericks were reported to be interested in Martin, according to Sheridan Hoops‘ Michael Scotto.

Martin may be the best option for the Mavs, but they may be hesitant to pull the trigger because Martin has a player option for the 2016-17 season that would guarantee him $7.3 million. But if Dallas wants to improve, he may be the only option since he is shooting a career-low 37.5 percent from the field this season.

Other than Martin, there aren’t really any trade candidates that are reportedly available within the Mavericks’ price range. Their goal needs to be finding a scorer, and one that is comfortable coming off the bench. Adding a scorer will help the Mavs in their pursuit of a higher playoff seed.
