Washington Wizards

The Washington Wizards need to make some sort of change and perhaps working a little bit of magic could turn their season into a playoff berth. The Wizards are within striking distance of a playoff spot as there is little separation between nine teams in the Eastern conference. Changes are needed for the Wizards to make a run at the playoffs.

Trade rumors have been buzzing around the nation’s capital. Basketball Insider‘s Steve Kyler reported that the Wizards have taken interest in Ryan Anderson, P.J. Tucker and Trevor Booker. The Wizards, however, have had teams interested in forward Jared Dudley, according to ESPN‘s Brian Windhorst, but they aren’t interested in moving him.

  • With no clear playoff favorites in the Eastern Conference, the Wizards have a legitimate chance to make a run at a playoff spot. The fact that they aren’t interested in trading Dudley is an example that they believe they can, too.

It is unlikely that the Wizards would trade young forwards Kelly Oubre Jr. or Otto Porter Jr. Don’t expect shooting guard Bradley Beal to be dealt either, despite playing on a minutes restriction. The Wizards will probably be offering an expiring contract and a first-round pick, likely protected. They may have to take on some salary if they want to get their desired targets.

Washington believes they have a chance to make the playoffs, and with good reason. That is what qualifies them to be buyers at this year’s trade deadline, and so does the fact that John Wall can’t do everything by himself. The Wizards need to add to their roster, whether it’s upgrading their starters or bench, in order to make a run at the playoffs.
