NBA Trade Rumors: Trade Priorities For All 30 Teams
New York Knicks
The New York Knicks are not in the best of situations, despite having a great rookie campaign from Kristaps Porzingis. The Knicks have fired head coach Derek Fisher and promoted Kurt Rambis to interim head coach. The triangle offense has essentially been a failed effort due to a point guard position that is lacking a point guard.
It’s clear that the Knicks need a point guard, as made evident by their interest in Brandon Jennings and recent interest in Grizzlies’ point guard Mike Conley. The most valuable assets that the Knicks have to offer are rookie guard Jerian Grant, point guard Jose Calderon and shooting guard Arron Afflalo.

The package that may have the most success is offering Afflalo and Grant for a point guard of their liking. Acquiring the point guard of their liking becomes more difficult due to not having a 2016 first round pick, so Conley may be out of the picture. The Knicks could be in play for Jeff Teague or Dennis Schroder from the Hawks, but according to ESPN talks never progressed when the Knicks began discussions.
Another asset of value is forward Derrick Williams. He and Afflalo both have non-guaranteed contracts next season and both have player options. Even if both players opt in, they will be paid a combined $12.6 million and could both be contributors on a contending team. But who is going to want any of these assets when there are teams offering better assets?
This is the question that the Knicks will have to find a solution for. They are struggling without a true point guard and they need to find the right fit. However, that may not come until this summer in free agency. But the goal is clear: find a point guard.
