Indiana Pacers

The Indiana Pacers are in a similar situation to several NBA teams. They don’t have the best trade assets that could lead to improving their team. They could be looking to swap one of their starters for another player. For example, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst and Kevin Arnovitz reported that the Pacers have floated George Hill’s name in a potential deal for Teague.

Hill and Teague have the same very similar contract structures, both having one year left on their deals following this season and both in the ballpark of $8 million. The kicker is that Teague is from Indianapolis, playing his high school ball at Pike High School. Teague could be a better fit overall compared to Hill.

  • With the emergence of rookie Myles Turner, the Pacers could look to trade big men Jordan Hill or Ian Mahinmi. Both players are on expiring contracts and could be valuable to a team that lacks frontcourt depth.

The Pacers need to improve their bench, as does any playoff contending team. With the breakout of Turner, the Pacers could look to add a stretch player in the frontcourt. A deal for Thaddeus Young may make the most sense, since he has two years remaining on his deal following this season.

The best bet is that the Pacers will stay put, unless the Hawks are willing to work a trade to send Teague to Indiana. That is the most logical trade with Teague’s roots in Indianapolis. The only other choice is to trade some of their frontcourt members with a draft pick or Glenn Robinson III to upgrade the bench, which is the Pacers’ biggest need.
