3. Atlanta Hawks

According to Kevin Arnovitz and Brian Windhorst of ESPN, the Atlanta Hawks are open to trading All-Stars Al Horford and Jeff Teague. The goal is to find a player who can help Atlanta evolve from being an Eastern Conference force into an NBA contender.

This move may not pay off, but Dwight Howard could be the borderline superstar that’s long been needed in his hometown of Atlanta, Georgia.

It’s hard to imagine Atlanta trading both Horford and Teague, but dealing the former for Howard could be the move that Mike Budenholzer’s club needs. Howard and Horford aren’t similar players in any way, shape or form, but that doesn’t mean D-12 wouldn’t be of help.

Horford and Paul Millsap are both extremely skilled, but neither has been able to elevate the Hawks to the point of contending for a championship.

For all that’s said about Howard, what’s becoming clear in his later years is that he wants to win. He’s reached the NBA Finals, has two additional Conference Finals appearances, and has consistently stepped up with star-caliber performances in the playoffs.

If any coach can help Howard develop an elite post game, it’s Budenholzer. Stuck in limbo, this move is bordering on necessary for Atlanta.
