4. Boston Celtics

According to Frank Isola of The New York Daily News, Boston Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge recently inquired about Dwight Howard’s availability. Isola’s report was released before Adrian Wojnarowski relayed the information that Howard was officially on the market.

The question is, would Boston be willing to pay the steep price Daryl Morey will inevitably set in order to acquire the mercurial big man?

As previously alluded to, Howard led the Orlando Magic to the NBA Finals in 2009 and the Eastern Conference Finals in 2010. He played a key role during the Rockets’ run to the Western Conference Finals, and remains one of the most productive players in the NBA.

The 32-23 Celtics are built around blue-collar players who hustle their way to victory, but the addition of a star would undoubtedly make Boston a more viable contender.

In order to acquire Howard, Boston would likely need to offer some combination of Avery Bradley, Jae Crowder, and at least one draft pick. The Celtics have plenty to spare in the latter department, but there are doubts that a 30-year-old Howard can still be a franchise player.

Boston is expected by most to take a stab at a big name come the trade deadline, and Howard could be the player they land if Ainge decides to pull the trigger.
