The California Golden Bears shocked the college basketball community when head coach Cuonzo Martin successfully recruited two of the Top 10 players in the country. The first of two to appear on this list is slashing wing Jaylen Brown.
He certainly has his flaws, but if you’re looking for this year’s prototypical, “Upside,” prospect, Brown is your guy.
With just one look at Brown, one can see why scouts and general managers across the NBA are so intrigued. He stands at 6’7″ with a muscular 222-pound build and a wingspan that reaches just over 7’0″—physical traits that generally translate well to the next level.
Throw in the fact that Brown is an explosive leaper who finishes through contact, and there’s reason to believe that he’ll be one of the best players to emerge from this draft class.
Brown’s upside is limitless, and the right coach could turn him into a dominant two-way force. That makes his upside comparison one that should intrigue contemporary fans: Chicago Bulls wing and two-time All-Star Jimmy Butler.
Brown needs to get his jump shot intact if he’s going to thrive at the next level, but he has the physical gifts and mentality of an impact player.
