Last year, it was Croatian wing Mario Hezonja who took the value of enigmatic international hype and turned it into his being a Top 5 pick. In 2016, Turkish shooting guard Furkan Korkmaz has the potential to do something of the same.
It’s hard to imagine Korkmaz cracking the Top 5, but there’s a very good chance that he could come off the board in the Top 10.
Korkmaz is a 6’7″ shooting guard with the explosive athleticism to make SportsCenter appearances during the early goings of his NBA career. As for what really matters, his quality of play, Korkmaz is as intriguing a prospect as they come.
With a smooth jump shot and the ability to work the baseline as an off-ball slashing threat, Korkmaz can become an intricate piece of an NBA offense upon improving his ball-handling.
A safe upside comparison for Korkmaz would be Kevin Martin, albeit with more explosiveness, due to his ability to space the floor and draw contact in the paint. A more ambitious comparison is Eddie Jones, although that depends heavily on Korkmaz becoming more aggressive in the passing lanes.
For an indication of how athletic he is, Korkmaz recently told Jonathan Givony of DraftExpress that it’s one of his career goals to participate in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest.
