Teammate Damian Jones is garnering more headlines, but it’s Wade Baldwin IV who’s the No. 1 prospect on the Vanderbilt Commodores. With the size and build to be a defensive ace, and the shooting stroke to be an elite scorer, Baldwin is built for the current climate of the NBA.

There’s no telling how great he’ll actually become, but Baldwin has the skill level and body type to be one of the very best players to emerge from this draft class.

Baldwin can be nonchalant, at times, and that has alienated a number of scouts who are considering him as a lottery pick. When focused and aggressive, Baldwin puts his physical advantages to good use by compensating for his lack of quickness with strength and length.

Baldwin can shoot from anywhere on the floor, flashing Stephen Curry range and game with less developed ball-handling.

Baldwin doesn’t have Curry’s quickness, but his upside comparisons remain intriguing. He’s a Kirk Hinrich type of player in the sense that he can defend multiple positions and stabilize the offense, which holds extreme value for teams that have a ball-dominant superstar at another position, or need an on and off-ball combination at point guard.

The ultimate comparison is Chauncey Billups, with whom Baldwin shares shooting range, strength, and fearlessness in big moments.
