Jeff Teague – Atlanta Hawks

The Atlanta Hawks have looked nothing like the 60-win, top-seeded club from last season, and there’s a real chance they decide to disassemble their core before the deadline and start a rebuilding process.

The first name to go, if that were to happen, would be Jeff Teague.

Though having a dynamic point guard is a necessity in the modern NBA, the Hawks have insurance in the form of Dennis Schroder, the 22-year-old floor general that Atlanta selected 17th in the 2013 NBA Draft. This season, Schroder is averaging 10.7 points and 4.5 assists in a meager 20.7 minutes per game. That translates to 18.6 points and 7.9 assists per 36 minutes.

Teague is the current starter, and is coming off his first All-Star appearance. He’s having a good year, posting averages of 15.1 points and 5.5 assists, but hasn’t developed into the difference maker that Atlanta hoped he’d be. ESPN reports that Teague will likely be available as the deadline approaches:

"The Hawks have been gauging the market for point guard Teague, who has started 345 games for Atlanta over the past four and a half seasons. Sources say the Indiana Pacers have made inquiries and have dangled guard George Hill as a possible swap. The Magic are also potential suitors for Teague, sources confirmed."

There are a few teams around the league in need of an upgrade at point guard — in addition to Orlando and Indiana, the Knicks, Nets, Bucks and Rockets all come to mind as suitors — and Teague has a very friendly contract that is set to expire after next season. With Schroder in the back pocket, expect Atlanta to capitalize on Teague’s value.
