NCAA: Lou Henson National Player Of The Year Award Power Rankings
By Nathan Giese
5. Justin Robinson, Monmouth Hawks, MAAC
Love it or hate it, the Monmouth bench has been one of the bigger stories in college basketball this season, especially at the mid-major level. But the bench isn’t winning games for the Hawks. It’s the players on the court.
Of those players on the court, Justin Robinson stands out as the leader of one of the best mid-major teams in college basketball. The reigning Lou Henson Player of the Week, Robinson leads Monmouth in scoring (20.3 points per game, third in the MAAC) and leads the conference in steals (54 total, 2.2 per game). He’s the engine that makes the Hawks’ bench worth talking about.
Monmouth as a team has the highest scoring offense in the conference, averaging 81.0 points per game, which ranks 31st in the nation.
As for Robinson himself, he’s a great offensive weapon that can get hot at any time. He’s scored 20 points or more in 13 games this season and shot over 50 percent from three in nine games.
A 42 percent shooter from three-point range, Robinson is also more than capable of grabbing boards (3.6 per game) and finding teammates for open shots (3.7). Those are amazing numbers, but they’re pretty solid for a high-volume scoring guard in the mid-majors.

There’s a very real possibility Monmouth earns an at-large bid should they lose in the MAAC tournament, so even if they were to lose there, teams shouldn’t count themselves grateful because they could still see the Hawks in the NCAA tournament.
Just ask UCLA, Notre Dame and Georgetown what Monmouth is capable of. All Robinson did was total 50 points in those three games, and those weren’t even his best games of the season. This is a scary team.
