NCAA: Lou Henson National Player Of The Year Award Power Rankings
By Nathan Giese
3. Joel Bolomboy, Weber State Wildcats, Big Sky Conference
Weber State is best known for producing Damian Lillard, but the program as a whole has been pretty stellar under Randy Rahe. This year is no different as the Wildcats sit with a 16-7 record and are currently 8-2 in Big Sky play.
The Wildcats are led by conference Player of the Year favorite Joel Bolomboy, another undersized big man on the national level (6-foot-9), but with a great body and a nose for the ball on rebounds.
Bolomboy averages 13.2 rebounds (second in the nation; more than Ben Simmons) while also scoring 17.2 points and blocking 1.7 shots per game. There was some minor draft buzz surrounding him prior to this season. While that has subsided a bit, some still see him as an asset at the next level (NBADraft.net current has him projected to go 38th overall to Milwaukee).
There’s no guarantee Bolomboy and Weber State make it to the NCAA tournament, but if they do, expect that draft buzz to grow a bit with his intangibles and athletic build.
