5. Washington Wizards

There’s a very harsh reality that must be accepted in Washington: the combination of shooting guard Bradley Beal and point guard John Wall isn’t enough. Wall is solidifying his place as an NBA superstar, and neither player has reached their respective prime, but Beal’s constant bouts with injury have hindered the Wizards’ pursuit of greatness.

Beal is a stellar young postseason performer, but when it comes to surviving the regular season, he’s proven incapable of remaining healthy enough to get the job done.

With Hassan Whiteside down low, Randy Wittman and the Wizards could build a genuinely elite defensive unit. Marcin Gortat‘s stability and Nene Hilario‘s expiring contract could be attractive assets, as could Otto Porter Jr.—a 22-year-old small forward who has played quite well in 2015-16.

The reality is, Washington can’t get this deal done without the help of a trade partner

Nene’s expiring contract is an appealing way to bring a third team into the mix, and Gortat is a valuable asset, as well. Either Porter or Kelly Oubre Jr. could help round out a trade package that would not only appeal to many teams, but potentially lure Whiteside to Miami.

With a trio of Beal, Wall, and Whiteside, the Wizards could make a serious run at the postseason in 2015-16. Without some type of significant trade, Washington may fall short.
