4. New Orleans Pelicans

The New Orleans Pelicans locked in Anthony Davis for the long-term; now it’s their job to put a more competent supporting cast around him. At this point, everyone on the roster (other than the Brow) should be expendable. Jrue Holiday and the injured Tyreke Evans are not long-term solutions in the backcourt, but a distributor like Jeff Teague very well could be.

With Evans’ season-ending injury dropping the Pelicans deeper into tanking territory, getting rid of a player who’s spent the year on a minutes restriction and bringing in a quality, healthy starting guard puts New Orleans in a better position moving forward — without interfering with their inevitable descent into the Ben Simmons sweepstakes.

Teague only has a year left on his contract after this season, but so does Holiday, and Teague comes at a slightly cheaper price ($16 million vs. the remaining $21.9 million on Holiday’s deal). Even better, Holiday has been playing extremely well lately, further boosting the trade value of a player who may not be able to log 30 minutes a night for the rest of his career.

From Atlanta’s perspective, Holiday could continue his sixth man act off the bench behind Schoder, and the minutes restriction wouldn’t be a problem in that kind of role.

Holiday has found his groove lately, averaging 17.8 points, 6.9 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game since the calendar turned to 2016, so he certainly would have value no matter which direction the Hawks choose moving forward. He may not provide equal value, but Holiday is also two years younger than Teague and would allow Schroder to continue his ascension into a starting role.

However, NOLA has been surprisingly quiet in this year’s trade rumors, with Evans being the only name mentioned. Evans’ trade value is kaput with his injury, so unless the Hawks’ interest is piqued by Holiday, Atlanta will look elsewhere for potential trade partners.
