9. Philadelphia 76ers

Robert Covington‘s value may have been inflated over the past few weeks thanks to the quality of team he plays on — i.e., “not very good” — that helps him stand out a bit. A quick look at the stat line reveals mediocre season averages of 11.4 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game on 37.8 percent shooting from the field and 33.8 percent shooting from three-point range.

However, Covington would have a chance to bolster the wing spot in Atlanta, especially if either Kent Bazemore or Thabo Sefolosha were involved in another roster blow-up kind of move. Covington has the potential to be a solid two-way player in this league and the Philadelphia 76ers have a treasure trove of future draft picks to choose from to sweeten the deal.

The point of contention in these hypothetical trade talks would be what kind of pick comes Atlanta’s way. The Hawks would likely push for a first-rounder since Covington has mostly put up mediocre numbers on a historically bad team, while Philly would try to push for one or two second-rounders. Trading away future firsts is basically against their DNA at this point.

In any case, if the two sides found some mutual understanding on the draft pick front, the Hawks would add to their wing depth and turn the team over to Schroder, while the Sixers would make their first move in turning the corner under Jerry Colangelo. No offense to Ish Smith and his career year, but Teague’s arrival would signal a change in culture for a team that’s become notorious for losing.

However, the Hawks might be able to do better than a trade package of Covington and a draft pick, especially if the Sixers don’t budge on including a future first of some kind.

There’s also no question that Ish has become beloved in Philly and has a terrific connection with Nerlens Noel, so perhaps this kind of win-now move wouldn’t make as much sense for the Sixers. In fact, Schroder would make more sense as a trade target for the Sixers at age 22.
