2. Brooklyn Nets

The Brooklyn Nets badly needed a franchise point guard before Jarrett Jack went down with a season-ending ACL tear, and now that he’s been out for awhile, Shane Larkin hasn’t looked like the solution. There will be point guards available in free agency this summer and the Nets will have plenty of cap room to work with, but will someone like Mike Conley or or Rajon Rondo really be interested in heading to Brooklyn?

Like it or not, having Brook Lopez and Thaddeus Young as your two best players is not the strongest selling point for prospective free agents. Why not pounce on this opportunity if Jeff Teague is on the trade block?

With DeMarre Carroll gone, Young would be a definite upgrade over Bazemore and Sefolosha at the 3-spot for the Hawks. He’s averaging 15.1 points and 9.1 rebounds per game on 51.3 percent shooting this year, and though he doesn’t have three-point range, he’s the kind of solid two-way player the Hawks look for.

Meanwhile, the Nets would get their franchise point guard at the manageable cost of a good but not great starter. Only having Teague for a year and a half puts Brooklyn on the clock as far as convincing him to stay for the long-term, but the Nets would have some time to put all their extra cap space to good use and assemble a better team.

However, with Bazemore starting to play well in the starting role, the Hawks might feel they could get a better deal for Teague than Thaddeus Young. If that’s the case, Atlanta would be perfectly content waiting for a better offer, since Brooklyn is hardly in a position to be offering trade sweeteners like draft picks.
