1. Stephen Curry, Golden State Warriors

Last Rank: No. 1

Position: Point Guard

Age: 27

Slash Line: .508/.454/.912

Season Averages: 33.8 MPG, 29.8 PPG, 6.6 APG, 5.3 RPG, 2.1 SPG, 4.9 3PM

The Golden State Warriors keep winning and Stephen Curry continues to run away from the competition in the race for MVP. He’s scoring at will, coming on as a facilitator, and has Golden State significantly closer to 50 wins than 10 losses—an insane statistic unto itself.

Curry admittedly lost some ground with Kevin Durant thoroughly outplaying him during their head-to-head encounter, but he’s so far ahead of the pack that it doesn’t really matter.

Curry would need to experience a sharp decline in both production and efficiency in order for those behind him to secure the No. 1 spot. He’s simultaneously leading the league in scoring and comfortably pursuing a spot in the 50-40-90 club.

Even if his numbers do come back down to earth, the Warriors would need to slow down by a significant measure in order for Curry’s MVP case to take a hit.

In the meantime, Curry is a distant No. 1 in both Win Shares and Player Efficiency Rating. He’s thriving in the role Golden State has created for him, shooting at will and converting more often than he doesn’t—literally.

More hoops habit: Which NBA stars are on the trading block?

There are a number of players who are closing the gap, but none have come close enough to truly give Curry a run for his money in the race for MVP.
