5 Dunks Zach LaVine Should do in 2016 Dunk Contest
By Jake Hyman
5. Lost and Found
Saving arguably the best for last, Kilganon’s “Lost and Found” dunk is one of the craziest dunks ever done, whether it be in a professional environment or for fun. It would be the “It’s over” dunk of 2016, reminiscent to Vince Carter’s jam in 2000. If LaVine decides to make this dunk a reality on an NBA court, people would have a hard time grasping of what previously just happened.
Running up and reverse tossing the ball behind your back, the dunker has to rotate 360 degrees before grasping the ball with one hand and finishing for the impressive slam. This fits LaVine’s traits as a player. There’s burst, body control, rotation and finishing ability all involved in this spectacle of a dunk. Without the proper ascension or start, the dunk is difficult to even attempt.
Practicing the 360 dunk would be a challenge for anyone competing in a dunk contest, as they would take time away from focusing on their other options for the contest. However, like the Scorpion or any other dunk previously on this list, LaVine would cement his legacy as one of the best dunkers in NBA history pulling off these attempts.
At just 20 years old, he’d have shown the ability to finish and come up with unique dunk attempts. Last year, the commentators acknowledged that LaVine probably has a lot more dunks waiting to be unleashed.
It will be difficult to come up with fresh dunks and replicate the scores of the 2015 event, but Zach LaVine has shown before that he’s a dunking savant whose built ideally for the Sprite Slam Dunk contest.
