Redrafting The 1st Round Of The 2014 NBA Draft
30. San Antonio Spurs: Johnny O’Bryant III, LSU
Original selection: 36th by the Milwaukee Bucks
2015-16 statistics: 3.3 PPG 2.9 RPG 0.2 BPG 7.62 PER
Johnny O’Bryant III put together a solid three-year collegiate career at LSU, becoming one of 14 players in the school’s history to record 1,000 points and 700 rebounds. Still, his name didn’t enter draft conversations of being worthy of a first-round selection, hence why the Bucks snagged him in the early second-round.
Looking at this draft class a year later, O’Bryant gives reasons to think he could have been the last pick of the first-round.
Throughout his two-year career thus far, he hasn’t gotten as much playing time (10.8 mpg this season) in Milwaukee because of the already young depth they have in the frontcourt behind the starters, but when he does get his chances, O’Bryant shows glimpses of being a solid option at a back up position in the NBA.
A decent comparison of what O’Bryant could become would be someone like Brandon Bass. A physical hustler who can also knock down the 15-footer. He isn’t going to fit into the stretch-4 that every NBA team drools over, but he could very well provide some energy off the bench.

It seems as if any player can be productive in the San Antonio Spurs’ system, so it’s safe to assume that O’Bryant would be putting up much better numbers than he is in his current situation.
