Redrafting The 1st Round Of The 2014 NBA Draft
11. Denver Nuggets: Dante Exum, Australia
Original selection: 5th by the Utah Jazz
2015-16 statistics: Tore ACL before season began
Dante Exum was a questionable prospect heading into the draft because of his only experience being in Australia and not in the NCAA. However, his size at 6’6″ and his ability to handle the ball intrigued many teams in the lottery, but the Jazz pulled the trigger earliest.
Exum didn’t take the league by storm, but he had a somewhat successful rookie campaign. He started 41 games, helping the Jazz to a 24-17 during that time. His averages of 4.8 points, 2.4 assists, and 1.6 rebounds per game didn’t jump out at you, but there were major adjustments to the speed of the game that Exum had to adapt to.
The Nuggets already have invested their future in point guard Emmaunel Mudiay, but if they had selected Exum at their 11th pick (given that he was still available), they could possibly have used their top-five pick in the past draft on a big man or wing.
