Redrafting The 1st Round Of The 2014 NBA Draft
9. Charlotte Hornets: Rodney Hood, Duke
Original selection: 23rd by the Utah Jazz
2015-16 statistics: 14.6 PPG, 3.2 RPG, 2.6 APG, 14.67 PER
Rodney Hood will be looked at as one of the steals of the 2014 draft after seeing how versatile he can be on both ends of the floor. Particularly on the offensive side, Hood can score at all three levels efficiently and at 88 percent from the free-throw line, makes him a very difficult assignment for defenses.
Hood has started all 48 games for the Jazz this season and has seen a dramatic minute increase not only because of his improvement, but also because his backup Alec Burks had season-ending ankle surgery at the end of December.
Hood has had a couple of big scoring games throughout his two-year career, but he tallied a career-high 32 points this season in an overtime win against the Memphis Grizzlies.
Charlotte is pretty deep at small forward and shooting guard now that Michael Kidd-Gilchrist returned from his surgically-repaired shoulder, but it would be hard to pass on Hood if they had the chance once again. A scoring lefty with ability to play at both ends doesn’t come along often.
