Why do the Knicks do this?

The other big news of today:

While Carmelo Anthony has a no trade clause and would likely say hell no to a Universal vacation, Phil Jackson would have to at least consider this. Harris would be an excellent fit next to Porzingis when the Knicks go small. The Knicks get way younger, and they nab a starting point guard prior to free agency. On the whole, the Knicks save money, get younger, and fill a big hole. Anthony has changed his game a lot this season but he’s ageing, and the chances of him being an elite player when the Knicks are ready to contend don’t look good.

Why do the Magic do this?

If the Magic think they are close, the newly changed, and unselfish Anthony would be a dynamic force in the middle of all the young Orlando talent. He’d give them scoring at three and the four and be the biggest star since Howard to wear the uniform. It’ a massive move, and a big risk but you take those risks for star players. The Magic also hold on to all their picks and most of the core despite acquiring a high-end talent.
