2016 NBA Rookie Ladder: Post All-Star Break Expectations
5. Myles Turner, Indiana Pacers
It’s fairly safe to say that at this point in the year Turner is the draft’s biggest steal.
Taken at No. 11 overall by the Pacers Turner has blown away expectations and is now a full-time starter for Indiana. He fits the team’s style and personality serving as a shot-blocking presence down low with skills scoring in the post and on the perimeter.
There were concerns about his running and physical talents but he’s wiped away those concerns early on averaging 19.8 points and 9.5 rebounds per 40 minutes while sporting a PER of 18.52. These numbers are all crazy good for a rookie meaning Turner is on pace for an All-Star berth in this league one day.
I do expect him to take more three-point shots and expand his pick-and-pop game as the season goes on. He’s been involved in a lot of post-ups which is fine because he has the moves to excel in that area, but he also has a clean jump shot that could prove vital to spacing the floor for Paul George and Monta Ellis to score more effectively.
