Top 15 Super Bowl Sunday Performances In NBA History
By Phil Watson
10. Scottie Pippen, Chicago Bulls vs. Golden State Warriors, Jan. 29, 1995
The Chicago Bulls were in unfamiliar territory, having slipped below the .500 mark with a 102-99 loss at Orlando the Thursday before hosting the moribund Golden State Warriors at the United Center on Super Bowl Sunday.
The Warriors were just 12-26 after trading disgruntled reigning Rookie of the Year Chris Webber early in the season.
For Chicago, which was still more than six weeks away from the ballyhooed return of Michael Jordan from retirement, Scottie Pippen did it all against the Warriors, going 9-of-13 from the floor and finishing with 27 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists in the Bulls’ 116-94 blowout victory.
And he did all that in just 29 minutes.
Pippen was in the middle of another All-Star campaign for Chicago. He averaged 21.4 points, 8.1 rebounds, 5.2 assists, an NBA-leading 2.9 steals and 1.1 blocks per game for the Bulls while shooting .480/.345/.761 in 1994-95.
In Super Bowl XXIX at Joe Robbie Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla., San Francisco 49ers quarterback Steve Young pulled the monkey off his back with a Super Bowl-record six touchdown passes in a 49-26 win over the San Diego Chargers.
