The New York Knicks were looking to snap a two-game funk on Super Bowl Sunday in 2011 when they welcomed the Philadelphia 76ers to Madison Square Garden.
Amar’e Stoudemire showed the way.
Stoudemire scored 10 points in the first quarter and 19 in the first half as the Knicks surged to a 55-51 lead.
He added 22 more points after intermission to pace New York to a needed 117-103 victory.
Stoudemire ended with 41 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four blocked shots, hitting 17-of-21 from the floor.
It was his first, best, season with the Knicks, as he was an All-Star for the sixth and (so far) final time in his career by averaging 25.3 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.9 blocks on .502/.435/.792 shooting.
In Super Bowl XLV at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, MVP Aaron Rodgers helped lead the Green Bay Packers back to the top of the NFL world with a 31-25 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
