Colorado Buffaloes

RPI: 23
Record vs. RPI Top 50: 2-6
Best Win: 91-87 vs. Oregon
Worst Loss: 95-83 at Washington
Best Remaining Game: Feb. 24 vs. Arizona

More from Hoops Habit

Though Colorado is currently projected as an No. 8 seed in Joe Lunardi’s latest bracket at ESPN (Feb. 5), there’s some murky answers in their résumé.

The benefit of the Buffaloes’ 17-6 start is that their non-conference schedule was rather soft. Other than games against SMU and Iowa State — both losses on neutral courts — Colorado’s best out of conference opponent, in terms of RPI, was BYU, who would need to win the West Coast Conference tournament to get into the NCAA field.

However, Colorado does have two solid RPI wins, beating Oregon (third in RPI) and California (35th), but both were at home. On the road, their best win is a one-point victory at Stanford, another non-NCAA team as of today.

Beating Oregon definitely helps, but when you consider that the Ducks came back on Thursday to anihilate the Buffaloes , it puts Colorado minus-16 against them on the year in point value. That win, though good, sort of got washed away.

A win against Arizona would go a long way in pushing the envelope a little further to get Colorado back in the NCAA Tournament. They’re sitting okay right now, but another win is needed.
