Golden State’s Cap Room

After this season, the NBA’s new television deal will kick in, which will send the salary cap skyrocketing. This is going to lead to a lot of teams being able to add multiple superstars to their rosters with long-term deals.

However, even with the extra cap space, the Warriors would have to make a plethora of moves in order to free up the dollar amount needed to sign Durant. As noted earlier, the Warriors would have to release multiple assets and trade Andre Iguodala.

At age 32, the list of suitors lining up to trade for Iguodala would likely be rather short unless the Warriors decide to exchange him for next to nothing.

One of the most difficult decisions the Warriors would have to make would be to let Harrison Barnes walk in free agency. He has improved every year he has been in the league, and is still only 23. Barnes has an eternity to continue to develop towards his ceiling, which is an annual All-Star.

The list of moves the Warriors would have to make in order to sign Durant is long and troublesome. While the return of Kevin Durant in exchange for their efforts would be well worth it, they could be burned if he decides not to sign there.
