5. Chandler Parsons

By successfully signing Chandler Parsons, the Mavs knew they would be in for a change. For the first time since 2008-09, someone not named Shawn Marion would be the starting small forward for the team.

Parsons has had an injury-plagued career with the Mavs so far, but when he has been healthy, he has been a great piece to have around. At times, he is shifted to the power forward position with Nowitzki going to the center position. They are both great at attracting defenders and work well together as pieces of the starting lineup.

His chemistry with “The Big German” was almost instant and the two have worked to create a new core for a team that has struggled to keep players around since its championship in 2011.

Though the duo has not played together for very long, a special bond has been formed. As explained in an article by Brad Townsend of SportsDay, Nowitzki has been key in helping Parsons get back on track this season.

"“Pretty much every day, even on off days we come in. I wouldn’t want to work with anybody else in the league. Ever. That’s a resource that I’ve had here for over a year now, and I’m just starting to take advantage of it. And he’s been great. Just little pointers, nothing too drastic.”"

Though Parsons is certainly no Nowitzki, in terms of team impact, it certainly does look like he will be a key component to the future of the Mavs and it should be entertaining watching them play together for the remainder of Parsons’ contract.
