12. Aron Baynes

With Brandon Jennings on the mend and Jodie Meeks needing foot surgery two games into the season, nobody was expecting the Detroit Pistons‘ bench to be one of the league’s premier second units. But Detroit’s bench is the lowest-scoring group of reserves in the NBA, and it’s starting to look like three years and $20 million was quite an overpay for Aron Baynes.

Contrary to what his Basketball-Reference page says, Baynes has not been much of a “Banger” in the paint for the Pistons, averaging 5.6 points and 4.4 rebounds in 14.2 minutes per game. He’s shooting 50 percent from the field and has been productive in limited minutes, but the team’s defense is 5.3 points stingier per 100 possessions with him off the floor.

This wasn’t a disastrous signing by any means, but committing even that much money to a player who has done little to stem the tide that’s drowning Detroit’s bench can’t be considered a “good” move either.
