Friday’s slate of basketball games will be a good one, with 18 teams playing in nine games. Of the nine games, six of them feature ever-important, intra-conference battles and the other three games feature cross-conference battles.

Three teams will be playing on the second night of a back-to-back, though the Los Angeles Lakers aren’t traveling far, as they play at the Staples Center for a road game against the Los Angeles Clippers.

One game to keep an eye on is an Eastern Conference and Central Division rivalry between the Cleveland Cavaliers (32-12) and the Detroit Pistons (25-21). The over/under on the game is set at 207. The teams have combined to score 203.5 points per game this season, but Cleveland has played much better since Tyronn Lue took over as head coach.

The Cavs have averaged 114.5 points per game in their two wins under Lue, who wants to push the tempo to get more scoring. When the two teams first met on Nov. 17, all 10 starters scored in double figures and the teams combined to score 205 points. Mind you, Mo Williams was the starting point guard for the Cavs and added 15 points. That won’t happen since Kyrie Irving has returned and Williams has been relegated to the bench.

Out West, the Houston Rockets (25-23) are fighting for a playoff spot against the Oklahoma City Thunder (35-13), who look poised to challenge the San Antonio Spurs and Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference. This game features the highest over/under of the night at 221.5 points.

In their first meeting on Nov. 2, the teams combined to score 225 points in a game that the Rockets won. Nine players scored in double figures of that game, including James Harden with 37, Kevin Durant with 29 and Russell Westbrook with 25. Since then, the Rockets have dealt with injury problems and the Thunder discovered point guard Cameron Payne. Expect another high-scoring bout between two Western Conference rivals.

The Charlotte Hornets (22-24) are out West for a meeting with the Portland Trail Blazers (21-26). The over/under for the game is the third highest of the night, set at 205.5 points. The two teams combine to score 203.8 points per game. In their first meeting on Nov. 15, the teams scored 200 points.

This game is filled with two All-Star Game snubs at the point guard position, between Kemba Walker and Damian Lillard. The guard play is going to be great, adding C.J. McCollum and Nicolas Batum on the wing. The four players combined to score 86 of the 200 points.

Without further ado, here come the best picks, gems and players to sit for Friday’s competition.
