Dallas Mavericks

Mark Cuban has been known to make a run at marquee players, especially with how often he was in the news when DeAndre Jordan was a free agent last offseason. Cousins would be a great fit for the Dallas Mavericks, and could be the player that could put the Mavs on top.

Acquiring Cousins would allow Dirk Nowitzki to focus on his outside and mid-range game while Cousins could command the post. The high-low combo that Nowitzki and Cousins could provide would be very good and tough to compete with in the Western Conference.

The Mavericks would be left thin on the wings after losing Parsons, but his value right now is also high. But trading for Cousins is an easy move for the Mavericks because once Nowitzki retires, they won’t have a cornerstone piece to build around. Cousins could be just the guy.

  • For the Kings, they have a great opportunity to add depth on the wings. Receiving Parsons and Devin Harris help out on the wings. Harris’ ability to play as a combo guard adds versatility and depth to the backcourt, especially. Being able to platoon Rondo, Harris and Darren Collison would take weight off the shoulders of McLemore and Marco Belinelli.

The Kings could also go with smaller lineups to use their newfound quickness. Perhaps it would allow them to matchup better against their divisional rivals, the Golden State Warriors. Gaining two future firsts would provide the Kings some stability towards the future, and with Nowitzki’s retirement coming in the near future, the Mavericks’ pick could reach the lottery.

Dallas may become an instant contender with one of the best frontcourts in the league if they can land Cousins. The Kings would also be able to keep pace, and potentially sets up a trade involving Rudy Gay.

According to Hollinger’s NBA Trade Machine, the Kings would neither gain nor lose wins. The Mavericks, on the other hand, would improve by five wins and potentially catapult them to fourth place in the West.
