Andre Drummond’s horrendous free throw shooting has begun to overshadow his stupendous play in virtually every other area. The hack-a-Shaq approach not only takes Drummond out of his personal rhythm, but it has the same effect on the Detroit Pistons.

The most recent week embodied the highs and lows of having Drummond at center.

Drummond bookended his week with two impressive individual performances. He posted 19 points, 22 rebounds, and four steals in a 115-99 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans, and had 22 points, 18 rebounds, two steals, and a block in a 110-97 win over the Philadelphia 76ers.

He also posted a combined 11 points and 14 rebounds in the two middle games, shooting just 1-of-14 from the charity stripe.

Free throw shooting isn’t often emphasized as much as Drummond’s, but few players have ever been as bad at the line. He’s making just 35.5 percent of his attempts, which is actually down from the 38.9 percent he made in 2014-15.

It’s been a season of exhilarating highs and paralyzing lows for Drummond in Detroit.
