Honorable Mention: Karl-Anthony Towns, Minnesota Timberwolves

Last Rank: N/A

Position: Center

Age: 20

Slash Line: .533/.378/.857

Season Averages: 29.4 MPG, 16.1 PPG, 9.8 RPG, 2.6 ORPG, 1.4 APG, 1.8 BPG, 0.7 SPG

Minesota Timberwolves center Karl-Anthony Towns is a rookie, and for some, that automatically excludes him from this list. The reality is, Towns has played at such a high level on both ends, all the while maintaining elite efficiency, that it’s hard to ignore him as a candidate.

Rookie or otherwise, anyone who’s essentially averaging 16 and 10 on a slash line of .533/.378/.857 needs to be mentioned.

Towns is No. 9 in the NBA in blocks per game and No. 11 in rebounding. He’s No. 18 in Player Efficiency Rating, No. 21 in Estimated Wins Added, and has elevated his game to the point of, at times, legitimately dominating the competition.

Exhibit A:

According to Basketball-Reference.com, Towns is on pace to become the first rookie in NBA history to average at least 15.0 points and 9.0 rebounds on 50.0 percent shooting from the field and 80.0 percent shooting from the free throw line. That’s scary considering he’s well above all four marks.

It doesn’t necessarily make him a Top 20 player, but that’s one heck of a way to start a career.
