Over the past week, no player was more dominant than Sacramento Kings center DeMarcus Cousins. He struggled mightily against the Portland Trail Blazers, but even then, he managed to tally 17 points and four assists while getting to the line 17 times.

The more important performances consisted of his scoring a combined 104 points in two games.

Cousins dominated the Indiana Pacers, recording 48 points and 13 rebounds on 17-of-29 shooting from the field. Two days later, he took his game to another level by annihilating the Charlotte Hornets for 56 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, two blocks, and a steal on a mark of 21-of-30 from the floor.

Forgive the cliche, but it doesn’t get much better than that.

Cousins’ two scoring eruptions helped remind the NBA of how dominant he can be when properly channeling his focus and emotion. He and the Kings are currently the No. 9 seed in the Western Conference, but trail the No. 8 Portland Trail Blazers by just .003 win percentage points.

If Cousins and the Kings maintain their explosive play under George Karl, Sacramento could make its long-awaited return to the postseason.
